Black Snake Moan

First entry goes to surprisingly good "Black Snake Moan", directed by Craig Brewer (new name to me).
The story revolves around a sex-addict tease named Rae, played by Christina Ricci, who gets "left behind" by her boyfriend Ronnie (Justin Timberlake), who decides to join the Army (or something like it), and bluesy-guitar player Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson), recently traded for someone younger by his wife. I don't like telling the story when talking about any movies at all, 'cause I believe that if you really wanna know about it, you should just watch it, and not hear about it from someone who wasn't involved in the making of it to begin with. So I'll get through this part really quickly.
Lazarus finds Rae in her panties, beat up and passed out, face down in a dirt road that goes by his house. He takes her in and soon finds out about the girl's condition. For a reason that never became clear to me during the movie, he decides to "cure" her, by chaining her to the heater and making her a captive in his own house. In time, an interesting father-daughter relationship takes shape between them and the rest of it is not up to me to tell. All I can say about it is that for something that seemed (from the trailer, which doesn't do justice to the movie) like an excuse to show sex scenes with Christina Ricci (yes, I AM talking about the girl from the 1991 classic "The Addams Family". She's is now far from being the creepy, chubby bug-eyed girl with which most people seem to associate her even nowadays), this movie was impressively interesting. Well directed, the movie maintains its trashy feel from beginning to (almost) end, and the cast delivers a strong performance. No surprise there for me, when it comes to Cristina or Samuel. Both have had great performances before. But even Justin Timberlake did a pretty good job. It kinda makes me think that maybe he shouldn't be singing after all. Hehehe.
Anyway, that's my impression of it. Pretty good movie. I give it 3 stars out of 5.
